KEVIN'S FINE JEWELRY
Totowa, NJ
When owner Kevin Seele wanted his store reminiscent of a Tuscan villa, Ruth Mellergaard incorporated niches and columns, both characteristic of Tuscan architecture into the layout. The plan facilitates side-by-side selling using custom-designed showcases and wall-cases with residential detailing, such as large armoires. To help direct clients to the cash-and-repair area, artist Kim Esposito painted a mural of the famous Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy. Two Italianate fluorescent light fixtures illuminate the area. The artist sponged the terracotta walls to provide texture. The floor is distressed wood in a reddish brown colour, contributing to the warmth and Tuscan personality of the store.
Immediately ahead of the store entrance, a double-clamshell shaped showcase island, with a lighted ceiling detail overhead, supported by stained wood columns, surrounds a salt-water aquarium. Two-thirds of the showcases are stand-up; the final third at the back of the island is dedicated to sit-down cases.
To show off his jewelry at night when clients from the restaurant next door spill out onto the sidewalk, Keith Kovar designed beautiful rollback window display cases. These can be pulled back into the store late at night, as mandated by the insurance company. The store’s rich details stimulate clients and staff alike.

“Keith's design for my window units, that allow me to display jewelry both during the day and at night (when the restaurant patrons hang out) is brilliant.”
