DENATALE
FINE JEWELERS SINCE 1908
New York, NY
When DeNatale Jewelers had to move, the 104-year old family business rented 3000 sq. ft. in the lobby of NYC’s historic Indiana limestone Trinity Building.
Selling mostly through referrals and word-of-mouth, the private jewelers wanted to attract patrons visiting other professionals in the classic building.
In her design of the coolly elegant 700 sq. ft. showroom, Mellergaard took advantage of the high ceiling and large windows, using a minimum of contemporary elements to maximize the beauty of the traditional. Refurbished showcases and new corner museum cases with seamless glass tops and warm coloured wood bases form a rectangle and provide a focus for the space. Overhead, a bronze track utilizes Solux 3500 Kelvin low-voltage lamps interspersed with classic pendant lamps, retrofitted with energy efficient fluorescent to illuminate and elevate the merchandise. The ceiling was brushed and sprayed a contrasting green colour.
The three brothers have separate private offices with big beautiful desks and windows wherein they meet clients and custom design their jewelry. Jim DeNatale concludes, “The glamour of the space shows us.”
